AD is a sudden 20 to 40 mmHg increase in blood pressure above baseline in response to a or non noxious stimulus below the level of the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) which can lead to stroke and Cardiovascular Arrest (CVA).
Normal or baseline systolic BP for persons with SCI is 90 to 110 mmHg.
Autonomic Dysreflexia (AD) is Life Threatening in nature.
During episodes of AD Blood Pressure could rise up to 300 mmHg – dangerously high BP.
